Istanbul to Aksaray
1. Roadway Alternatives
By Private Car:Driving your own vehicle is highly comfortable thanks to the Ankara-Niğde Motorway (O-21). Distance: Approximately 680 km. Duration: Around 6 to 7 hours, depending on traffic.
By Intercity Bus:There are frequent, hourly bus departures from Istanbul's major bus terminals (such as Esenler, Harem, Alibeyköy, Dudullu, and Samandıra) directly to the Aksaray Intercity Bus Terminal. Duration: Average travel time is between 9 and 11 hours.
2. High-Speed Train (YHT) + Transfer Alternative
While there is no direct high-speed train station inside Aksaray yet, you can combine the comfort of rail travel with a short road transfer via Konya:
- The Route:You can take the Istanbul - Konya High-Speed Train (YHT) from stations like Halkalı, Söğütlüçeşme, or Pendik, reaching Konya in about 5 hours.
- The Transfer:Once you arrive at the Konya Train Station, you can easily head to the Konya Bus Terminal (Otogar), where buses or shuttles depart for Aksaray every hour. The road connection takes about 1.5 – 2 hours.
- Total Duration:Approximately 7 to 8 hours in total, including connection wait times.
3. Airway + Transfer Alternatives
Since Aksaray does not have a civilian airport, flying requires using airports in neighboring cities combined with a "Flight + Car Rental / Shuttle Transfer" option:
- Via Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV):You can catch a flight from Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) to Nevşehir. From there, Aksaray is just about a 1-hour drive (approx. 75 km).
- Via Konya (KYA):From the airport, you can rent a car or take a shuttle to the Konya Bus Terminal to catch an intercity bus, reaching Aksaray in about 1.5 to 2 hours.
- Via Kayseri Erkilet Airport (ASR):From the airport, you can rent a car or take a shuttle to the Kayseri Bus Terminal to catch an intercity bus, reaching Aksaray in about 2 to 2.5 hours.
- Via Ankara Esenboğa Airport (ESB):After flying into Ankara, you can rent a car directly at the airport or take a bus from the Ankara Bus Terminal (AŞTİ). Following the Ankara-Niğde Motorway, you will arrive in central Aksaray in about 2.5 -3 hours.
